Louis CK examines humanity and its crumbling moral fibre with his incredible 'If Murder Was Legal' segment. From his prediction that the absence of a law against murder would bring out the worst in even the most peaceful individuals to his hilariously vivid image of parents curb-stomping their defiant children at a shopping mall, he effortlessly kills it with this well-crafted and well-phrased joke. Not only did this bit have me laughing so hard I nearly ruined my laptop with a spray of water, it also got me thinking. How would people react to the absence of a law against murder?Would they rely on some honour code or morality and not harm a fly? Or would they go on a murderous rampage and kill dozens of people without any repercussions? It's funny in the context that Louis explains it in, but it's also thought-provoking and somewhat alarming. We'd all like to think we'd behave nobly in a situation without much-needed laws, but would we really adhere to that rapidly dwindling sense of good if the temptation arose and no punishment was dealt? Louis doesn't think so.... It doesn't deserve the coveted #1 spot on the list, but it's damn close. If you thought this joke was great, wait until you catch the top three. I'm confident you won't be disappointed.
