This week's "Mad Men" episode, "A Tale of Two Cities" takes us deep into the inner workings of Sterling, Cooper & Partners, as two companies attempt to successfully merge into one. The episode also brings us to a turbulent 1968, as the Democratic National Convention spirals out of control, putting the status quo on trial as members of SC&P take sides in inter-office battles and war-time politics at the same time. Let's run down the top five "Things We Learned" from Mad Men's season six "A Tale of Two Cities".
5. Peggy & Joan
Long-time fans of the series recognize the "frienemy" relationship between the vivacious, voluptuous Joan and the hard-nosed and dedicated Peggy that has seen its ups and downs over the years. From Joan's direct and coarse directions to Peggy upon her arrival to be more body conscious, to Peggy's ascension from secretary to working accounts, to Joan leaving the firm and finally returning, and Peggy doing the same, it was quite a pleasant surprise to see Joan and Peggy finally sharing screen time once again. The fact that the episode featured Peggy grilling Joan on how business is done with accounts, made the relationship feel like it had come full-circle in a way, as it echoed a similar dressing-down Joan dispatched onto the new-girl Peggy in the series premiere. Peggy saving Joan with a fake phone call from being lambasted by Pete and Ted was also a nice touch, only for Peggy to tell Joan, "now you better hope they call".
