Marvel's Luke Cage Season 2: Ranking Every Major Character From Worst To Best
4. Shades
In season 1, Shades was such a fascinating character because he seemed to be a hard-nosed gangster through and through - a survivor who went where the power was. What season 2 does, though, makes him even more interesting, as the character's unshakeable facade breaks down. In short, we see behind the shades to meet the real Hernan Alvarez.
Shades' big turning point this season happens when he kills Comanche in order to keep Mariah's secrets. This eventually turns him against her, though, as he realises she has gone too far - he even rats her out to the police. It's a nice twist to have him, who initially encouraged her into a life of crime, be the more moral of the two. That said, it's still satisfying when he finally gets his comeuppance and is sent back to jail on a technicality.
If there's a downside to Shades' arc in season 2, it's that his and Mariah's romance doesn't quite ring true. Maybe exploring that hinted relationship between him and Comanche would have been more interesting.
