Marvel's The Punisher Series Finally Confirmed By Netflix
One Batch, Two Batch, Penny and Dime.
It's finally been confirmed: The Punisher is getting his own Netflix series!
The character debuted earlier this year in the second season of Daredevil, with Jon Bernthal playing Frank Castle. Now, EW have reported that Marvel have ordered a spin-off series, something fans had been hoping for since The Punisher appeared on-screen back in March.
The Punisher has proved difficult to adapt over the years, with a number of film adaptations never quite nailing the character. Bernthal, however, delivered a masterful portrayal of the tortured and brutal Frank Castle, in particular during the Punisher-centric opening four episodes of Daredevil Season 2.
He's already being considered the definitive version of the character, and it's great that he's getting the chance to show off more of what he can do in his own series.
Steve Lightfoot, who served as a producer and writer on NBC's now-cancelled Hannibal, is on-board as showrunner.
The Punisher series will be the sixth Marvel/Netflix production, alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Given the initial plan was to have the four characters in their own shows before coming together to form the supergroup, it's unclear how the arrival of the Punisher will alter things, if at all. He doesn't play well with others, but it'd still be a surprise if he didn't appear at some point in the team-up.
In addition to the news the first teaser image has been revealed, showing off the iconic skull. That's something we should get to see a lot more of whenever The Punisher eventually makes it to our screens.
