MCU: 10 Big Questions Surrounding Marvel's Disney+ Shows
7. Why Is Sam Wilson Still Being Marketed As The Falcon?
One of the most exciting upcoming Disney+ projects for the Marvel is the Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The two characters have been in the MCU for five and eight years respectively, and have so much more to offer than they have had the opportunity to show in the movies.
Both have been Cap's right hand man, and both fought with him during Civil War, but the two have never really seen eye to eye. However, when Steve chose Sam to take the Captain America mantle, Bucky approved, so perhaps they will be on the same page in 2020.
Yet with Sam taking the mantle from Steve, and literally taking the shield from him, it begs the question, why is he still referred to as Falcon and not Captain America? This made sense as a way to avoid spoilers, as the show was originally announced before the release of Endgame, but Comic Con was the perfect time to officially announce it as Captain America and the Winter Soldier.
It doesn't make sense for the show to be set before Endgame as both were snapped away and Bucky was on ice between Civil War and Infinity War, so could something happen to Sam that leads to him giving up the title during the series? There must be a reason, as a marketing error of this magnitude is not what we're used to from Marvel Studios.
