We'd already seen some of it, as mentioned earlier, but the finale properly delivered on Ted and Tracy's future together. Even only through glimpses, we saw her telling him about her pregnancy with Penny, thus postponing their big wedding, we see them together at a future Halloween where Tracy has embraced Ted's hanging chad costume with her own counterpart, we see Ted's re-proposal and then we see them get married. And after this, we see a short series of pictures from their future lives, bringing up their kids and enjoying nights out together, just being happy. So we saw Ted happy finally. Something we've been missing for nine seasons, as he enters into each relationship with the audience already knowing it will somehow fail (some more spectacularly than others - cue Jeanette flash-back). And he finally gets the wife and children he envisaged when he recklessly bought his Westchester house, getting his children interested in architecture and meeting a woman just as bookish and crazy as him.
