Not to get too ahead of things, but Small Screen is reporting that discussions are once again ongoing between David Fincher and Netflix about developing a third season of Mindhunter.

Citing a source with inside knowledge, this new report says that conversations between Fincher and the on-demand streaming juggernaut have started up again – with the Se7en and Zodiac director said to be upbeat about a Mindhunter return.

After two stunning seasons, Netflix put the show on “indefinite hold” early last year, with stars Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv all released from their contracts. That was followed up by Fincher himself talking about how all-consuming the series was, with him working 90 hours a week on Mindhunter – even after Courtenay Miles was promoted to co-showrunner to relieve some of that pressure.

This all came about before David Fincher penned a four-year exclusive deal to develop projects for Netflix, of course. The first of those projects, Mank, was a resounding success and has been nominated for a ridiculous ten Academy Awards.

Holding out hope that a third season of Mindhunter will at some point indeed become a reality, our own Ewan Patterson and Josh Brown were quick to get giddy at this news.
