MTV remaking THE INBETWEENERS

By Dan Owen /

MTV have commissioned a pilot for an American version of the BAFTA-winning teenage comedy The Inbetweeners, according to Deadline. Brad Copeland (Arrested Development, My Name Is Earl) will executive-produce, along with Aaron Kaplan, Lauren Corrao, and the show's creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley. Copeland will become the showrunner if MTV pickup the pilot for a full series. David Jonallari, MTV's Executive Vice President:
"The Inbetweeners is one of the best comedies to come out of the UK in years. It's unique and bold, its approach to contemporary teen coming-of-age stories is universal and simply hilarious, and it will resonate immensely with our core demographic."
The show is currently being cast, with casting directors Juel Bestrop and Seth Yanklewitz searching for young American actors to star. This is the second British youth show MTV have decided to remake, with a US version of Skins also on the way. Interestingly, Iain Morris and Damon Beesley already have experience of working in US comedy, having scripted a few episodes of HBO's Flight Of The Conchords. They also wrote the pilot for an earlier attempt to adapt The Inbetweeners for ABC.
