New X-Files Series: 10 Things Fans Want

4. Find A New Antagonist

Alex Krycek is dead, shot in the head by A.D. Skinner. The Cigarette Smoking Man, who so often cheated death on The X-Files, and is frankly one of the best television villains of all time, is dead as well, and for once, there's no question: fans watched the fleshed burned from his bones when he was shot in the face - with a missile. While over the top to say the least, it was actually a pretty cool scene, one that removed any uncertainty about the fate of the most evil human being to ever walk the world of The X-Files. Which means that, except in flashbacks or as spirits, William B. Davis (who at age 77 is still a very busy actor in genre works and has a recurring role in Continuum) and Nicholas Lea will not be back, and a new antagonist needs to be found. The surviving X-Files villains, various members of the shadowy Syndicate and alien replicants - well, they're just not enough to fill in as a main bad guy. Which means that a new, compelling antagonist must be found. And whoever it is, he or she will have some large shoes to fill.
