Orange Is The New Black: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From Season 3

Trust No B*tch.

By James Hunt /

Orange Is The New Black just started its third season on Netflix. Simultaneously, the third season of Orange Is The New Black has just ended. Along the way was enough comedy and drama to fill a three month run of a show, packaged into 13 episodes and dropped off into your Netflix account in one tidy bundle, ready for binge-watching until your heart€™s content. Season 1 of the show was focused on Piper Chapman€™s transition from fish-out-of-water to hardened prisoner, while the second season expanded the characters but mostly centred around Vee, the main villain. Season 3 continued to explore the characters even further, especially in the absence of an overarching antagonist. There was a lighter tone to the show - the sort that confuses the Golden Globes as to whether this is a comedy or drama - but still plenty of emotional moments as well. This was a different season of the show to what has come before, one made up of lots of smaller character moments as opposed to being driven by one central plot. At times this worked perfectly, while on other occasions it didn€™t quite come off in the way the writers would have hoped. With that in mind, here€™s a look at what the season managed to get right, and the areas it fell a little flat.
