Riverdale has spent the vast majority of its season confusing its viewers with not one but two convoluted storylines that both seem to allude to a supernatural higher power.

On one side, it has Edgar Evernever defying all logic with his Farm (and his brainwashed subjects) while on the other, it has the unnerving Gargoyle King receiving sacrifices from its devoted followers through the creepy game known as Gryphons & Gargoyles.

This week's installment, 'Fear The Reaper', saw both narratives receive equal attention as Betty made a breakthrough in her investigation of The Farm and the Jones' wrestled to save Jellybean from the Gargoyle King. Both storylines shared the stage with Archie Andrews' attempts to clear his name (again) and prove that Elio was providing his fighters with the drug known as 'G', while Josie made some life-changing decisions that built towards her upcoming adventure on the Riverdale spin-off.

To say that 'Fear The Reaper' was divisive would be an understatement. Though it found strength in its Gargoyle King narrative, the rest of the episode was hampered by baffling decisions, lack of stakes and wasted reveals - all issues that have plagued Riverdale for nearly two seasons.
