10. The Skrull's Mission

Even though the Skrulls have conquered many planets over the years, their home is Tarnax IV. Well, it WAS their home before the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus, gobbled it up. Soon after, the Annihilation Wave decimated the rest of the Skrull Empire, leaving the shapechangers on the brink of extinction.

The Skrulls had no choice but to find a new world to serve as their home, and, because of their constant battles with the heroes of Earth, they planned to take over our planet in order to reshape it as their base of operations.

Given how the pointy-eared extra-terrestrials had been beaten by Earth's heroes time and time again, they knew they couldn't overthrow them by force. Instead, they kidnapped certain humans and had their own Skrull soldiers assume their identities. After several years, thousands of Skrulls had infiltrated the planet without anyone being the wiser.

The Skrulls bided their time, waiting to strike when humanity was at its weakest. After vigilantism had been criminalised, Thor, Nick Fury and Scarlet Witch were out-of-action, Hulk was imprisoned, Captain America was dead, and the mutant population had been decimated, the Skrulls made their move.
