Sense8 came out of nowhere back in 2015, and quickly became one of Netflix's most popular shows. The series focused on eight strangers, all from different parts of the world, who become emotionally and mentally connected to one another. Featuring a multinational cast, Sense8 was praised for its representation of LGBT characters, while also dealing with topics such as politics, religion and identity.

But despite its apparent success, Netflix cancelled the series last year, with the streaming service's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos citing high production values as the reason for cancellation. Fans were understandably fuming at this news and many of them campaigned endlessly to save Sense8. Surprisingly they succeeded, and Netflix revived the series for a one-off finale.

Writing an extended finale was no doubt a difficult task for the Wachowski sisters and J. Michael Straczynski. The last episode of Season 2 had seen the sensates kidnap the villainous Whispers in an attempt to save Wolfgang, so with the BPO storyline to wrap up - let alone character-specific arcs such as Kala's love triangle and Sun's vendetta with her brother - fitting it all into two and a half hours was going to be a challenge.

The Sense8 finale is finally here and, surprisingly, it's more or less everything that fans of the show could've hoped for.
