Sci- fi thriller 12 Monkeys first dropped on to TV screen in January 2015. Originally commissioned as a 13 episode series, a second series was almost immediately announced by Syfy in March 2015, following a very favourable response by viewers and critics alike due to it's clever transversing of time and reality. Little over a year later and 12 Monkeys Season 2 is set to premiere this April, with an exclusive clip previewing the upcoming series found above.
Set in 2044 Season 1 introduced us to the character of James Cole (Aaron Stanford; X2, X-Men: The Last Stand), as he is sent back in time to help prevent the release of a deadly virus which has threatened the existence of humanity. Aided by a modern day expert in immunology, Dr Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull; One Tree Hill, Suits), they work together to thwart the evil conspiracy which has been concocted by a mysterious and malignant army known as the 12 Monkeys.
Season 2 picks up exactly where we finished as James and Dr Railly continue in their quest to uncover and undermine the plans held by the 12 Monkeys. When an even more heinous plot is discovered that puts at risk the very essence of time and reality itself, the duo suddenly find themselves battling not only against the enemy but also against the moral standpoints of each other. It's is a tension which pushes their friendship and close bond to breaking point, as they are joined by people from both the past and future who must form an unlikely alliance to succeed.
Travelling backwards and forwards through time, the team must work to discover what exactly it is the 12 Monkeys are intending and put a stop to their apocalyptic ambitions before time runs out forever. Filled with suspense and drama, the relationships and destinies of the different characters are slowly unravelled, and a close examination is given of how realities can be intertwined across time. With the very essence of what we in the balance 12 Monkeys Season 2 is set to be a mind blowing highlight in this year's television makeup.
