Ghosts. Thats the word Mark Gatiss gave when asked to provide a clue as to the forthcoming adventures of one Sherlock Holmes.

Theres many ways it could be taken, such as the ghosts of his past coming back to haunt him - Moriartys potential return - or it could have a more literal meaning. The Sherlock stories arent particularly concerned with the supernatural, but with this being a totally standalone thing then maybe its a road they will go down.

Its the perfect time for a ghost story, and it could even see Sherlock putting its own twist on something like A Christmas Carol, which would be an intriguing proposition, and may offer an explanation for why theyre in the Victorian setting.
