Sherlock Season 4: 20 Easter Eggs & References From The Six Thatchers

12. Thatcher Is The New Napoleon

BBC

The Six Thatchers is primarily an adaptation of Conan Doyle story The Six Napoleons. Unusually for Sherlock, which often updates a key part of the story to fit the modern day (i.e. Irene Adler's compromising photos are reimagined as a camera phone), The Six Thatchers keeps the element of the plaster busts. The only difference is that the busts are of Margaret Thatcher rather than the eponymous historical Frenchman.

The most overt nod to the update happens when Sherlock's associate, Craig the hacker, mentions that - due to the passage of time - Thatcher is now akin to Napoleon to some. It's a little heavy-handed, maybe, but a fun reference all the same.
