In season nine, the story of how Lisa got her saxophone begins with the destruction of that very instrument. It then turns into a father's touching love for his daughter - Simpsons style. When Lisa shows herself to be gifted, Homer and Marge want to nurture her talent, and consider enrolling her in a private elementary school. However they cannot afford the tuition, and their (and Lisa's) dreams are dashed until they opt to use music as a way to focus her talents. This is also the episode that shows how Bart's early love for school was crushed, turning him into the hellion you love today. Lisa's Sax, coming in season nine, is probably the last of the "golden era" flashback episodes.
