South Park: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

With season 24 on the horizon, it's time to review the best and the worst South Park.

No matter how solid a comedy is, it can't stay on top forever. The Simpsons was the hottest thing on television during the 1990s but that show peaked over twenty years ago. At first, this may seem like an unfair criticism. I mean, a comedy can't stay funny for that long, can it?

And yet South Park has been on-point with its hilarious satire for over two decades. The creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, are clearly not afraid to mix up the formula or stir the pot on the most controversial issues.

Every time it feels like the show is getting stale, it will pull out a blinder like Scott Tenorman Must Die, Trapped in the Closet, or Imaginationland. With recent episodes maintaining the same standard, it looks like the comedy juggernaut isn't slowing down any time soon.

Now, just because South Park is solid doesn't mean it's perfect. Some narratives fall flat and there are a few seasons where the creators clearly miss the mark. With season twenty-four looming forward, now feels like the best time to break down the iconic show's best and worst seasons.

23. Season 21 (2017)

There are no awful episodes of South Park. Having said that, Season 21 is the worst of a great bunch. The show has made a reputation for holding no punches. But in 2017, it feels like the creators were afraid to fully commit to riffing on Alexa, Mark Zuckerberg, and Netflix. The storylines ridiculing Hollywood's obsession with expanded universes or cancelling Columbus Day are explored well, but it feels like the writers were wearing kids gloves.

It's not a terrible season; it's just too safe, which is a word that should never be used to describe one of the most controversial animated satires of all time.
