19. Season 20 (2016)

South Park has recently shied away from self-contained episodes and focused on season-long narratives. When the creators decided to do a ten-episode story arc about the 2016 presidential election while it was unfolding, it sounded like a stroke of genius.

But because Trey Parker and Matt Stone were so certain Hillary Clinton would win, they were blindsided when Donald Trump was sworn in. This caused sub-plots to be abandoned and scripts to be rewritten in hours. This sadly led to a very clumsy and uneven season.

The cheap digs at obvious targets like the Ghostbusters remake and Elon Musk feel so insipid, this season felt safer than when the show premiered.
