Having recently become the streaming juggernaut’s most watched show, it’s fair to say that Netflix’s Squid Game is something of a cultural phenomenon.
Telling the stories of 456 men and women who find themselves in deep debt, the Korean series pits them against one another in lethal versions of innocent children’s games, all at the mercy of a mysterious benefactor, and their army of masked soldiers.
With completely different stories and personalities, the narrative focuses on these contestants desperate to claw their way out of the debts they have incurred, often through no fault of their own, as well as a detective investigating the whole mysterious game.
With the prize money of 45.6 billion Korean Won (approximately $39 million) dangled in a giant, clear piggy bank above their heads, filling up more with each fatality, it’s fair to say that not all are made equal, and it's in these situations that true characters of these unwilling participants are revealed.
