5. Tasha Yar Is A Romulan!

For me, Tasha Yar was a wasted character€until after her death. In season 1, she was the stereotypical powerful female role, a tough security chief borne out of classic icons such as Princess Leia and Ellen Ripley. While Denise Crosby was believable in that role, there wasn€™t much more to her than her position on the Enterprise and her death was pointless. Yes, I get the idea that it was supposed to be a meaningless, un-heroic death€but to be killed by a blob of black tar€really? So it added some real drama to Yesterday€™s Enterprise when she returned in an alternate reality, learned of her death and gave up her life to save the Federation from crippling defeat. That set the foundations for this great draw dropping moment. It was always going to be difficult for Star Trek The Next Generation to follow last year€™s Locutus of Borg cliff-hanger and this came very close. With Worf leaving the Enterprise to join his fellow Kilingons in their civil war, we end season four with the villains of the story and the reveal of their new ally€ Tasha Yar. As a villain. And a Romulan Commander. A moment that leaves the audience in shock and asks how is that even possible? Viewers would have a long wait until season 5€
