Michael's missing year is shown in a quick flashback montage in which she travels space, trades for information about the Federation, and changes her hairstyle a ton.

During a courier mission to an unnamed planet, Michael makes a trade with an unknown alien, but there are several known aliens milling around in the background. These known aliens include Andorians, a Lurian (Morn's race), humans, and a male (screen left) and a female (screen right) Cardassian.

Cardassians previously appeared on Hima in "That Hope is You", but "People of Earth" gives us a slightly better look at the faithful recreation of Michael Westmore's iconic make up design which first debuted in Star Trek: The Next Generation's "The Wounded".
