5. Initiations – Star Trek: Voyager
Deep Space Nine went on many locations to film — from lush gardens to gravel quarries — but sadly, never made it to Vasquez Rocks. Voyager, though, found its way back once. The Rocks stood for the site of a Kazon training moon Tarok (“Tarok” with a Kazon “a,” not a Cardassian “e”!). The crew spent a day there in July 1995 with Chakotay and Aron Eisenberg’s OTHER character, the Kazon-Ogla youth Kar, in Initiations.

Most of their scenes were located atop a series of vertical close rock slices, literally just across the main park road from the tilt rocks — but you’d never know it from the episode. It would be the last time to date that Star Trek, like Spock with his ears, would hide those two famous points.
