Star Wars Rebels Season 4: 13 Questions That Must Be Answered
Impossible to see the future is.
We are fast approaching the final season of Star Wars Rebels, and while many remain disappointed that there are only fifteen episodes left from the Ghost crew, there is so much to look forward to, and questions that need answering.
We have the liberation of Mandalore, the return of Saw Gerrara, X-Wings, U-Wings, the attack on Lothal… and that’s just to name a few.
So while we are coming to the end of Rebels, at least this time they are able to finish the journeys of these characters and wrap up all loose ends. Dave Filoni said that this was by no means an end to Star Wars animation, but simply closing the book on another chapter. Given the untimely end of the show’s predecessor, The Clone Wars, at least this time they can finish on their terms.
Knowing that many of the characters do not feature (at least at the forefront) in the original trilogy, the fates of the Ghost crew remain as uncertain as they began. Add in a number of intriguing rumours and reveals, and there are a lot of questions to be answered before Rebels ends.
13. Is That Captain Rex In Return Of The Jedi?
During the Rebels’ panel at Star Wars Celebration, there was a piece of concept art that supposedly “leaked” into the presentation, showing a new design for Captain Rex, this time in a rebel uniform.
Filoni quickly joked about the “sudden” appearance of the image, remarking that it “shouldn’t even have been in there” and made no further comment for the duration of the panel that confirmed anything - in true Filoni style.
That didn’t stop the fandom racing to the internet and suggesting that this was an unofficial confirmation that Captain Rex does indeed survive the end of Star Wars Rebels and in fact, continues to fight the Empire throughout the original trilogy and making it to Endor in Return of the Jedi.
This originates from a screenshot from Return of the Jedi featuring a Rebel soldier on Endor, sporting a beard that looks remarkably similar to the one that Captain Rex keeps in tip top shape. Naturally a connection was made and sparked off the theories, but there has been no real evidence to support it… until now.
This could of course all be a ruse. Filoni does like to meddle with his fans (we’ll get onto Ahsoka later), and this could simply be a nice little nod to that theory that gained such a strong following.
It’s not the first time that Rebels has slipped in little easter eggs, all in the name of fan service and you can bet it won’t be the last.
