Disney+'s upcoming Cassian Andor spin-off series has found a new showrunner in the form of Rogue One screenwriter Tony Gilroy.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Gilroy - who was already on-board as one of the show's writers - has replaced The Americans producer Stephen Schiff as showrunner, and will also be directing the pilot episode. His writers' room includes Beau Willimon (House of Cards) and brother Dan Gilroy (Nightcrawler). The change in showrunner may have to do with earlier reports of an overhaul in the show's writing leading to a delay in release, at the behest of Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

THR also reported actors Genevieve O'Reilly and Denise Gough will be joining the show, alongside Stellan Skarsgard and Kyle Soller. O'Reilly will be reprising her role as Rebel commander Mon Mothma from Revenge of the Sith and Rogue One. No word yet on Gough's character.

The as-yet untitled show will be a "spy series" centering on Diego Luna's character Cassian Andor, first introduced in Rogue One, taking place five years before the events of that film. The show was first announced in November 2018, with an initial premiere date in October 2019. Following the delay, filming was set to begin in June 2020, but as of the current global COVID19 pandemic, whether it will be delayed again remains to be seen.
