Stranger Things Season 3: 8 Biggest Questions After The Trailer

4. What's Happening To Billy?

Billy Hargrove made quite the impression on viewers when he debuted in the show's second season. As the abusive step-brother of Max, he was involved in a lot of the character-driven aspects of Season 2 and is undoubtedly best remembered for either sharing that really creepy moment with Mike's mom or for that showdown with Steve and the kids. Nonetheless, he remained out of the loop when it came to the show's more supernatural elements, but it appears that is all about to change.

We don't see a lot of Billy in the Season 3 trailer but the footage that we do see suggests that dark days lie ahead for him. Desperately hiding away in the shower, he stares at a growth of black spider veins on his forearm and, not only are they growing at an alarming rate, they also possess that eerie orange glow associated with anything that originates in the Upside Down. But what does this all mean exactly?

If you examine it closely, the mark on Billy's arm looks rather like a bite and, given that Episode 7 is actually titled 'The Bite', it's certainly beginning to look he has been bitten by something. Could the rats that appear in the trailer's closing moments have something to do with this and, if so, how did they become agents of the Upside Down?
