Earlier this month it was reported that Supergirl, following its switch from CBS to The CW, was looking to cast an actor to play Superman in Season 2.

Now, word comes from the network (via THR) that Tyler Hoechlin is the man they've chosen to play Clark Kent. Hoechlin made his breakthrough in Road to Perdition, but is probably best known for his work as Derek Hale on MTV's Teen Wolf, while this year has seen him star in Richard Linklater's Everybody Wants Some!!

Speaking about the casting, executive producer Andrew Kriesberg said:

"Greg [Berlanti] and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.

Just how much fans will get to experience Hoechlin in the famous suit remains to be seen. It's believed that he'll be in the first two episodes at the very least, but could then go on to be a recurring character throughout the second season. It's a noticable difference from last year, when Kara El's cousin was referenced a number of times, with her shown talking to him on instant messaging and the character appearing obscured in the distance or shadows.

Who knows, with a four-way crossover on the way, maybe we'll even get to see Supergirl, Superman, Arrow, and the Flash all on screen at the same time!
