After airing for more than a decade and taking the world by storm, the seemingly endless CW show finally came to an end on 19 November 2020. Supernatural became the longest-running sci-fi/fantasy television series in the United States, with hundreds and thousands of fans worldwide watching as the Winchester brothers stop numerous apocalypses - all while fighting off ghosts, demons, angels and more along the way.

After 327 episodes, it is fair to say the show had its share of both good and bad episodes. Throughout the series' wild ride, Supernatural constantly continued to tell sensational, dramatic, funny, meta-filled, and emotional stories, putting both casual and hardcore fans through a rollercoaster of emotions.

Although some may argue that Supernatural's goofiest or emotional episodes that explore the brothers' relationship with each other are the best, the show has delivered several perfect episodes for fans to enjoy.

However, it's these ten standout episodes that helped make Supernatural the widely successful show it became. This list mentions some key plot points, so an obvious spoiler alert is in effect for those who haven't seen the show!

10. Fan Fiction

As one of the less dramatic episodes in the series, Fan Fiction is Supernatural's love letter to all the fans who expressed their undying support for the show. During an investigation into the disappearance of a drama teacher at an all-girls high school, Sam and Dean are surprised to learn that the drama department is putting on a musical based on their lives.

Fan Fiction pokes fun at the show in the best possible way, complete with callbacks, references, inside jokes, and, boy, melodrama. Nothing was off-limits, including the popular ship Destiel, the show's writing post-season 5 finale, and the Winchester brothers leaving their half-brother Adam in a cage with Lucifer and Michael. It was clear that the cast and crew were thanking the fans since they never would've made it to 200 episodes without them.

Fan Fiction is also Supernatural's only musical episode, with fan favourite songs including The Road So Far and I'll Just Wait Here Then, as well as a hauntingly beautiful rendition of Carry On Wayward Son, the show's unofficial theme song.
