The Big Bang Theory: 10 Problems It Faces Moving Forward

6. The Character Saturation

As they grow, a lot of sitcoms build up their regular and supporting casts. And The Big Bang Theory is no stranger to that with seven main characters, and Stuart racking up 60 out of 231 episodes so far. Which doesn’t mesh very well with the show’s limited runtime.

Take away the titles, the credits, and the transitional animations, and you’re left with about eighteen minutes of episode. Which has to be divided between the seven main characters and whichever supporting characters are in each episode. As well as the episodes feeling crowded, they have to be specifically written to divide up the characters since a single plotline can’t flow properly with so many characters involved.

Along with the core seven characters and Stuart, Bert has been given more screentime recently, with five of Brian Posehn’s seven episodes being from Season 10. And with Raj now moving in with Bert, it looks like we have a ninth character joining the ranks. Which means less screentime to go around and a more crowded character dynamic.
