The Big Bang Theory Episode 6.21 Review - "The Closure Alternative"

By JD Shrader /

The nice thing about a show like our Big Bang Theory is that every once in a while you get an episode that goes completely off the rails, not really furthering any major plot lines and growing any character development: and it works. Last week's "The Closure Alternative" moves us one step closer to the season 6 finale which will see Leonard receive a job offer outside of Pasadena, but until then we cruise right along with our gang. Sheldon is distraught over the cancellation of the SyFy Channel's Alphas, and Amy sees this as an opportunity to try and help Sheldon with his OCD issue as it relates to the topic of closure. She runs Sheldon through a gamut of different scenarios, each not allowing him to finish to the full outcome. Whether it was a game of tic-tac-toe, a setup of dominoes that are ready to fall, or a fresh birthday cake where he couldn't blow out all the candles, Sheldon can't catch a break and is forced to deal with his issue. Or so we thought. In the end, Sheldon gets the better of Amy: he has her convinced he is making progress, only to send her on her way and then go back and redo all the tasks so they all reach their fitting conclusion. Great work from both actors and their respective characters for some scene-stealing performances. Also this past week we saw Raj try to be more manly as it relates to his new relationship. Believing his new girlfriend finds him too feminine, Raj becomes a man's man, sporting a faux love of hockey and a manly attitude to all things. It was certainly endearing to watch Raj try so hard to keep his first real relationship in years afloat, and in the end it things are status-quo for Raj and his love life. The bigger story this week showed us Penny coming to terms with the fact that she really does love Leonard. And because of this, she finally feels a real need to try and get invested in some of the things that he is so passionate about. While we have seen this story before in last years hilarious outing where the girls try to understand comic books, this episode last week took things a bit deeper, as Penny really made a concerted effort to get connected with Leonard through his love of all things geek. A nice, quiet development in an otherwise Sheldon-centric outing. Let's talk about this show! We are close to the finale! Ask and argue with me on Twitter: @davyshrader
