5. The Cliffhanger

When Paul Spector orchestrated a search party for his latest victim left in the woods, there was an unmistakable sense of foreboding and the show's knife-edge tension was at its highest.

Thuggish Jimmy Tyler was also in the hunt to exact his own brand of justice on Spector who was now cuffed to DS Tom Anderson (Merlin's Colin Morgan) while Stella Gibson desperately tried to save Rose from the killer's depraved treatment.

Everything was falling horrifyingly into place and we could only sit and watch it all unfold.

As the season came to a close, Stella was cradling a wounded Spector, DS Anderson also took a bullet and Rose was lifted into the back of an ambulance clinging to what life she had left.

The BBC have confirmed that the new series will pick up immediately where it left us so we won't have to wait much longer to find out what happens next.
