The Flash: 10 Things We Learned From The Season 2 Premiere

9. The Flash Reluctantly Goes Public

Because he so prominently streaks across our screens every week, it’s easy to forget that the Flash is largely an urban legend to the people of Central City. Aside from Iris’s articles and some word of mouth, there’s no real concrete evidence that he even exists.

So when the Flash shows up at Flash Day to accept the key to the city, despite his earlier assertions that he wouldn't, it’s a major development for Barry in a number of ways. For one, going public is only going to make things more stressful for him, as public opinion is just one more thing that could weigh him down. Barry's already burned enough with helping people that he doesn't need to be publicly called out about it as the Arrow often is.

The Flash, however, is not a hero like Batman, and is this a big step towards him becoming the loveable speedster from the comics. Though Barry might not be there just yet, it’s The Flash’s public persona that so endears him to his city and makes him the beloved and unique superhero that he is.
