The Flash Season 2: 10 Things That Must Happen

Bigger. Badder. Faster.

By James Hunt /

The Flash doesn't do anything slowly, but it sure does seem to be taking an awfully long time to get to season 2. Thankfully, to tide us over, we've had a few new confirmed characters and a trailer, which has caused plenty of excitement. We now know, for example, that fellow speedsters Wally West and Jay Garrick (who was teased in the season 1 finale) will be entering the fray, meaning that the world is going to be getting even faster this time around. There'll also be alternate dimensions, again teased last year, and Zoom will be the big bad. Typically the second season of the show can make or break it; it can either be where it truly comes into its own and expands on its first (examples that spring to mind are shows such as Buffy and The Flash's 'parent' show, Arrow), or it can stutter to a bit of a halt, losing a lot of the momentum built-up (e.g. S2 of The Walking Dead, although that's hardly hurt the show in the long run). The Flash had a blistering start to life as a new show, displaying none of the caution you might associate with a series just starting, and instead coming out of the gate with plenty of fun and cockiness, a refreshing break from the dark grit of most superhero shows. The problem is, how do you top that? If S2 is going to improve on things, and continue expanding the world of The Flash, then these are the things it's going to have to do.
