The Flash Season 3: 12 Things You Need To Know
12. Flashpoint!
First and foremost, the main inspiration for the initial elements of Season 3 of The Flash will be pulled from the fan favourite Flashpoint comic book arc. Penned by the iconic Geoff Johns, Flashpoint saw a completely different modern day setting come to be courtesy of Barry Allen travelling back in time to stop his mother from being killed.
The end of The Flash’s second season saw Grant Gustin’s Scarlet Speedster doing just that – speeding off back to the day that his mother was killed, and stopping the Reverse-Flash in his tracks – and so now we’ll have to see Barry dealing with an altered ‘present’ thanks to his actions in the past.
In the comic book world, Flashpoint saw huge shifts in established continuity, such as Bruce Wayne dying that night in Crime Alley, Thomas Wayne become a brutal, alcoholic Batman, Martha Wayne becoming The Joker, Superman being kept as a science experiment, Aquaman and Wonder Woman causing chaos across the globe as they embark on a bloody battle against each other, and Cyborg as the world’s main hero. And let’s face it, you know things are bad when Cyborg is humanity’s main sign of hope.
The televisual Flashpoint will see an altered ‘present’ timeline play out for the first four of five episodes of the season before things return to a more recognizable norm. Still, the repercussions of Flashpoint will be felt throughout the rest of this season and beyond.
