The fact that Eva McCulloch pulled a Laurel Lance and duped the population into thinking that she had been kidnapped all those years ago (and not actually dead) provided the finale with one of multiple intriguing hooks to ensure that the fans return next season. However, the management of it all felt a little, well, off.

Eva was very convincing no doubt, but are we supposed to believe that everyone just took her words at face value? Why didn't anyone ask her about how Joseph died? How did she dispose of the body? And how on earth did she frame Sue Dearbon?

Maybe she fashioned herself another evil reflection of Chief Singh (the first one exploded into pieces earlier in the episode), or perhaps she has other officers in her pocket. Nonetheless, the lack of explanation and the sole reliance on dialogue left this feeling a little too vague.

We love a good closing monologue, but it would have helped if we could see more than we were told.
