While Nick getting married was clearly upsetting for everyone, this wasn't the only thing of interest during this scene. When the women walked on stage to join their future husbands, their faces were completed covered. This is just another example of the disturbing reality that is Gilead. As soon as women are old enough to reproduce, they are forced to marry.

It's a testament to the strong writing in The Handmaid's Tale that at this stage in the game, the show can still shock us with Gilead's laws and beliefs. These revelations about this dystopian world never feel unrealistic. It's all completely believable.
