The former Swingers star and latter-day Iron Man director has seen his stock reach astronomical peaks after he helped birth the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming one of Disney's most trusted creative forces with their glossy remakes of The Jungle Book and The Lion King.

His work on the latter meant that, despite creating The Mandalorian, he was unable to take charge of an episode during its debut run - but with Simba and company now in the rearview mirror, he's been able to turn his attention back towards the series ahead of its second season.

Chances are that he could direct more than just a lone episode - but if he is restricted by his ever-increasing schedule to just a single outing, don't be too surprised if it's either the season opener or finale that he stewards personally to the screen.
