10. Marvin Monroe

The 138th Episode Spectacular asked the question, which popular Simpsons characters have died in the past year? Along with Bleeding Gums Murphy, Marvin Monroe was confirmed to be both deceased, and never popular. Murphy at least has a couple of strong episodes to his name, but not Monroe.

First appearing as the psychiatrist Homer turned to to solve his family issues, it was sort of the point that he was incredibly annoying. Unfortunately, he was made too annoying, and was retired from the show in just season seven.

The show suffered in absolutely no way, shape, or form for Monroe’s absence, as he even became too annoying for Matt Groening. If that was how someone with an actual reason to connect with him felt, just imagine how fans did. Neither his creator nor his voice actor wanted anything to do with him.

Though he was only in a handful of episodes, and was seemingly confirmed to be dead several times, Monroe was pointlessly brought back to life for one scene in season 15. This led to absolutely nothing, and served only to annoy the fans who thought they were happy in the knowledge they didn’t have to listen to that voice again.
