The Simpsons: 10 Most Underrated Characters

2. Kirk Van Houten

Kirk Van Houten is the often inept father of Milhouse, Bart's best friend, and on-again off-again husband of Luann Van Houten. A sleazy, unlucky combination of Gil Gunderson, Homer Simpson and Barney Gumble, Kirk, like many great characters in The Simpsons, is great because of all the terrible things he goes through.

In one episode, he loses his wife, his job and has his musical aspirations brutally snuffed out. In another, he and his wife got stranded on an island after going overboard during a cruise.

He spends his time post-divorce living in a sad bachelor pad, sleeping in a race car bed and drinking himself silly. Since then, he has appeared sparingly, but has joined the likes of Hans Moleman and Gil to become one of the town's number one unlucky souls, doomed to get into deeper and deeper trouble with every episode he appears.

Also, "Can I Borrow A Feeling?" rocks.
