Well before guest stars and recurring characters were given a lot more screen time to extend the Simpsons' scope from just being about a single family and more about an entire community, Fox extended the main cast temporarily with the revelation that Homer wasn't an only child.

Inevitably, Herb was everything Homer isn't - successful, rich and with a full head of hair - and both envied each other's riches. Sadly, in his quest to enrich his own life, Herb handed too much power to Homer, who ran his business into the ground and left him destitute.

A great cameo by Danny DeVito, who would reprise Herb againthe following season, to less success.
