The Simpsons: Top 10 Treehouse of Horror Segments

By Christian Bone /

For twenty three years and counting, The Simpsons' annual Treehouse of Horror special is always one of the highlights of Halloween - despite usually being broadcast in November (I hope that's also true of this article). Although there€™s been a varying level of success over time, because each episode is split into three bite-sized spooky stories there€™s always at least one corker a special. Some which deserve a mention but don€™t feature on this list include €˜Time and Punishment€™ where Homer invents a time travelling toaster and ends up changing the course of history, €˜If I Only Had a Brain€™ which sees Mr Burns transplanting Homer€™s brain in a robot body and the more recent €˜The Day The Earth Looked Stupid€™ that includes an alien invasion of Springfield, Orson Welles and a surprisingly serious concluding message. But enough of those that didn€™t get in. Now, turn out the light, ignore the vampire knocking at the window and prepare for your blood to boil as we look at the ten greatest Treehouse of Horrors. Cue amusing tombstones.

10. Four Beheadings and a Funeral - THOH XV

An often hilarious parody of Sherlock Holmes featuring Lisa as the deerstalker-wearing Eliza Simpson and Bart as her associate Dr Bartley as they investigate a series of killings in Victorian London committed by the mysterious Mutton chop Murderer. It may include some very dodgy English accents from the voice cast but it features a cameo from aliens Kang and Kodos in a steampunk spaceship so any wrongs are automatically forgiven.
