It hasn't always been pretty but the show has been a fun ride, capturing the hearts of millions for nearly a decade.

Like all good shows, TWD has a strong selection of main characters that return every season, escaping near death experiences by the skin of their teeth. Their legend will live on in our memories for years to come but what about the people that didn't make it?

In a depressing, zombie infested world, it's no surprise that most side characters only have a short stint on the show. Particularly with the Walking Dead, it seems that whenever you form an attachment to a new character, they are instantly killed.

The group's uncanny knack of making enemies wherever they went meant we were exposed to an awesome collection of enemies. However it wasn't all doom and gloom and the interactions that the gang had with survivors led to some incredible additions to the show.

Get ready to take a stroll down memory lane, as we reminisce about the good times. It's the least you deserve after making it through the pain fest of season seven and eight.

10. Otis

Otis arrived on our screens in season two with a colossal bang. Literally, by shooting Carl.

He sounds like a monster when you put it like that, but the reality was that Otis was a kind, caring, devoted husband, that found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He was the first person we met that lived on Herschel's farm. It was a simpler time then, when the group's biggest worry was finding somewhere safe to stay. Despite Carl being shot, the farm was a success for a while. Plus, we were introduced to stalwart characters, that passed the test of time.

Not Otis though, he met a grizzly end at the hands of Shane.

In an attempt to make up for the fact he shot a child. Otis agreed to venture out with Shane to find medical supplies. It was all going swimmingly, until Shane injured his leg and began struggling to escape a horde. In a classic psycho Shane move, he voluntarily sacrificed Otis by shooting him in the leg. Thus escaping himself and leaving Otis to be devoured by a pack of hungry walkers.

Otis was adamant he went out with Shane and refused to let him go alone. Oh Otis! If only you knew.
