The Walking Dead: 10 Important Characters Who Aren’t In The Comics

But only three of them are still breathing on-screen...

By Michael Potts /

The Walking Dead comics were around long before fans were dropped into Rick Grimes' on-screen hospital room. The overarching stories remain reasonably similar, even if the print publication has zoomed ahead, but the details of the plot have changed massively in some areas. Characters have lost limbs in the comics while they remain fully functional in the TV series, some comic book deaths have been swapped to different characters for TV, while there are of course some characters who act in a completely different manner. Carol is a major example. In the comics she is flirty, striking up relationships with other characters, and she's generally unhinged. She even goes as far as committing 'suicide by walker' early on. It's a far cry from the strong, impactful woman in the TV series. Then there are characters like Andrea who have done the opposite. She's long gone from the TV show, yet she's still alive and kicking in the comic books... As Rick's girlfriend, believe it or not. She's a major player, but of course that can't happen on our screens. It's bold by the creators to move away from the comic books in order to put their own stamp on the production, and they've even produced a string of original characters to achieve that. Here are 10 of the most important, TV-original Walking Dead characters.
