The Walking Dead: 10 Moments That Most Pissed Off Fans
10. "They're Screwing With Wrong People"
While The Walking Dead was like any other show in that it had its fair share of highs and lows, you can kind of pinpoint where the overall standard began to dip, and that was when the split narratives began in the second half of Season 4.
We could go into how they wasted so much time on the Terminus concept only to blow it all to hell in an episode or two, but let's instead talk about the single moment that drew fans' ire the most... and that came in the season finale.
Months were spent planning on bringing all those aforementioned split narratives back together, as the gang eventually found their way to Terminus, and it all seemed like the show was building to some kind of all-out war when Rick and the cavalry showed up. Instead, he got imprisoned with the rest of his troupe.
But it was okay, because in those final few moments he had a plan that was going to make them "feel pretty stupid", right? Nope. Instead, it all built towards a meaningless punchline in which he claimed "They're screwing with the wrong people," before cutting to black.
Now, this writer can certainly appreciate the fact that this line was a nod to the comic books' "They f*cking with the wrong people", but given that AMC wouldn't let them use that version (which had been filmed) and the simple fact that not everyone watching would have known that anyway, fans were understandably left feeling a little short-changed by a finale that teased war and didn't deliver, so a neat little punchline - no matter how well-executed - just wasn't going to cut it... especially when they had to wait months to see the resolution.
