10. Killing Her Husband

Nearing the end of season nine, The Walking Dead decides to slow the action down slightly by revealing Alpha's backstory, courtesy of her daughter Lydia's traumatic memories.

Although the episode relies heavily on its unreliable narrator, who makes it seem like her mother was made the way she is because of her abusive late husband, Lydia eventually reveals to Daryl that it was Alpha who was the controlling abuser, and that she actually murdered her husband because he was "weak."

It's a shock twist in an episode full of them, and instantly works to paint Alpha in an unpredictable and cruel light willing to do anything for her own twisted hopes of self-preservation.

After all, if someone is willing to kill their husband, and then let their companions die brutal deaths, what else are they capable of? In the case of Alpha, this was just the tip of the iceberg.
