The Walking Dead: 12 Best Cult Heroes
If these guys die, we riot... oh, too late.
The Walking Dead has grown exponentially since Rick first woke-up from his coma, going from being a show about him and his discovery of this world to the adventures of an extremely varied group of survivors.
Rick is still very much the main character on the show, and the leader of the group, but he is far from the only one that we’re invested in. The cast for the show is pretty huge, and through the years we have been treated to some great supporting players.
Sadly, this being The Walking Dead, we've had to say goodbye to a number of these, but they won't be forgotten in a hurry. They’re either just really likeable, which makes you care for them, or simply a total bad-ass, (and quite often both).
These characters may not have the biggest part to play, or the most walkers to kill, but what we see of them ensures they’ll be remembered, while many others have shown fantastic growth throughout the five seasons to become as important as Rick himself. In fact, in some cases their death would hurt even more than his.

12. Axel
There were a number of new survivors found locked in the prison at the beginning of season 3, and Axel was the best of them (and not just because of his epic facial hair).
Unlike Andrew and Tomas he’s not a killer, and is actually quite a kind-hearted and humorous person, which is shown by the fact he was the only one of them to become an actual supporting character.
Overlooking the weird moment where he tries to flirt with Beth - he hadn’t seen a woman in a very long time - he’s generally really likeable, and although his flirtations with Carol (once he realises she isn’t a lesbian) don’t seem to pay off at first, the two do get steadily closer as the season progresses.
Then, of course, just as it looks like they’re about to make a real connection, and he’s a character you’re looking forward to the development of, The Governor goes and puts a bullet in his head, and he becomes a human shield for Carol.
