Axel's glorious moustache alone was enough to justify creating his character. He's a prisoner and while he'd been locked up, unable to escape, it meant no walkers could enter the cafeteria they were stuck in. The group debate whether to free the prisoners or not, and while some are violent, Axel seems like he has a genuine heart buried inside. He even strikes up a flirty friendship with Carol, though while the pair are talking, he's shot through the head, meaning Carol must use his body as a meat shield to protect herself. Axel was an underrated character who was finished off too soon.
