The Walking Dead Season 6 Finale: 10 Things To Expect When Negan Arrives
10. There'll Probably Be A Difference To The Comics
Negan is a character they absolutely need to get right, and all the signs are pointing towards a faithful adaptation of the villain. Both showrunner Scott Gimple and actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is playing the bat-swinging maniac, have gone on record to say that they'll be serving the comic counterpart as best they can. However, with the show being on AMC, there is one aspect they're likely to have to change: his language.
His use of profanity is a big part of the character, but they probably won't be able to have him dropping the F-bomb repeatedly on the show, so that's the one part they're probably going to change, although apparently it is something they're working on, with Morgan telling EW:
"It’s a speed bump. I’m not going to say it’s an issue because they’re working on it. We’re going to push AMC — the plan is to push them as far as they can because it’s who Negan is. He uses some colourful language. And I use some colourful language. And reading the comic, it’s important. So we’ll see where that lands."
So, it may be a compromise is reached, but even if the language is toned down, he's still going to be an intelligent, violent, weirdly-humoured, bat-wielding badass, which isn't bad.
