The Walking Dead Season 7 Finale: 3 Ups & 5 Downs From 'The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life'
The Season 7 finale has the eye of the tiger, but lacks the thrill of the fight.
The end is here. It's taken fifteen slow, long (and often extended) episodes to get here, but now The Walking Dead Season 7 finale is finally upon us.
After the outrage of last year, we were promised by showrunner Scott Gimple that there'd be no repeat of the sort of cliffhanger that led to last year's finale being one of the show's most poorly received (it's currently a 6.2 on IMDb).
The First Day of the Rest of Your Life thankfully sticks to Gimple's promise, even in an episode that feels a lot like that season ender, as we spend a lot of time waiting for Negan to arrive and someone to die.
As is often the case with a season finale, it had a lot to try and pack in - and was an extended episode as a result. Based on recent weeks, it had to provide a big resolution to Sasha's story, resolve (at least to an extent) what was going on with Eugene and Dwight, unite Rick and Alexandria with the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and the Scavengers, and kick-start a major conflict between those groups and Negan and the Saviours that will play out long into Season 8.
It tackled all of those things and more, to different measures, and some worked a lot better than others. (Spoilers from this point on.)
