10. Where Is Gregory?

We last saw the cowardly Gregory planning a road trip with Hilltop henchman Kal in the penultimate episode of the season - Something They Need.

This means he is completely ignorant to the rebellion against The Saviours at Alexandria in the season finale, which bodes poorly for him when he arrives at his destination. We assume this is to be The Sanctuary, because Gregory was shown to be reading a note given to him by Negan’s deputy Simon, instructing him on how to find the base.

Gregory’s intention is almost certainly to inform Simon of Rick’s alliance with The Hilltop, and to distance himself from their plans to fight in order to curry favour with Negan. Little does he know, his snivelling message will arrive too late, with war already declared.

In Robert Kirkman’s graphic novels, Negan uses Gregory to try to persuade Hilltop forces to back down. If showrunners stick to this narrative, which is no guarantee considering the creative freedom they have, we could learn Gregory’s fate in the opening episode.
